General FAQs

Q: What is the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra?

A: The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra is a leader among Canadian chamber orchestras. Established in 1972, the MCO presents an annual concert series in Winnipeg alongside rich community engagement across Manitoba. Our concert series feature world-renowned guest soloists and we perform everything from traditional treasures to thrilling new premieres that push Canadian music forward. We’re deeply committed to dismantling barriers for participation in music and to creating meaningful experiences for audiences from all walks of life.

Our mandate is to foster and perform an open, evolving orchestral tradition at the highest artistic level to enrich and inspire audiences in Manitoba, Canada, and internationally. We tour widely, commission often, embrace a diverse repertoire, and collaborate with artists from a range of disciplines and traditions.

Q: Where are MCO concerts located?

A: Most season concerts take place at Crescent Arts Centre (CAC) unless otherwise noted. CAC is located at 525 Wardlaw Avenue in Winnipeg. It is housed within the Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, a landmark building known for its vibrant community involvement and beautiful architectural features. CAC provides a wonderful acoustic for live concert music.

Q: Is Crescent Arts Centre accessible for individuals with mobility issues?

A: Crescent Arts Centre has ramp access to the main doors on the northwest corner of the building, power-assisted doors, designated wheelchair areas, and accessible washrooms to accommodate all our guests. Accessible seating is limited - if you let us know you're coming, we can help ensure you have a great experience. Please contact us by email or call (204) 783-7377.

Please ensure your mobile devices are silenced and dimmed during the performance. Note that flash photography and recording are not permitted during the concert.

Q: Can I share my experience on social media?

A: Absolutely! We encourage you to post and tag us on social media during your visit. Share your excitement and experiences using our handle @MCOCanada on both Facebook and Instagram. We love seeing your posts!

Q: What should I expect at an MCO matinee?

A: For some concerts, the MCO presents a daytime matinee performance. These are fun and casual performances, a great way to connect with the MCO. You can expect these concerts to be a little bit shorter, at one hour in length. Some of the repertoire from the evening may not be performed. We reserve some seating for school groups and community organizations as part of our goal to ensure that music is accessible to all. Matinee audiences love being a part of the energy and attentiveness of school and community audience groups and participating in the post-concert Q&A.
